Chesterfield County Government is seeking a Residential Counselor for the Eastman Group Home. Under general supervision, performs work of moderate difficulty in providing direct assistance, support/supportive counseling, and skills training to individuals with intellectual disabilities in a residential facility.
-Develops, implements and monitors implementation of individualized service plans for individuals with intellectual disabilities participating in a residential program
-Plans, organizes and leads individual and group programs and activities including counseling, leisure, recreation and social
-Monitors maintenance of consumer files to ensure compliance with agency, state and federal requirements
-Implements health and safety plans and policies to ensure a safe and healthy environment for residents and staff
-Assists in orientation of new staff and in-service training
-Assists in developing staff schedules to ensure facility or program coverage
-Prepares and maintains casework documentation as required in the delivery of services (e.g. case histories, assessments, treatment plans, progress notes, correspondence)
-Prepares and maintains casework and related documentation (e.g. Medicaid Waiver documentation, progress notes) as required in the delivery of services; perform other work as required.

Successful candidate will possess a bachelor's degree in a human services field such as psychology, sociology, rehabilitation counseling, or a related field; one year of experience working with individuals with intellectual disabilities; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Working knowledge of the nature of intellectual disabilities and the role of residential support services. Ability to supervise consumers in a residential setting; to develop and implement individualized service plans; to communicate effectively orally and in writing; to operate a personal computer and related software and other standard office equipment; to develop and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external customers.
Current valid driver’s license and good driving record required. Based on the Virginia DMV point system, record must not reflect a total of six or more demerit points within the twenty-four months preceding the anticipated hire date, or one major violation of six demerit points within the preceding thirty-six months. Out of state driving records must be obtained by applicant and presented at time of interview. Record must reflect at least three years of history and be dated within thirty days of interview date. Pre-employment drug testing, FBI criminal background check, and education/degree verification required.
